The worldwide Berlins
It is not only the capital city of Germany which is called Berlin; more than 40 other places use this name worldwide. This includes small haciendas in South America with just a few inhabitants, it includes small towns in North America and of course the capital city of Germany. Initiative of the Berlin Community
.berlin is an initiative of the community of Berliners. It takes account of the interests of Berliners worldwide. The basis of the Berlin community is the people who identify themselves with Berlin. The Berlin community particularly includes inhabitants, companies and organisations from Germany’s capital city: people who were born in Berlin, who work in Berlin or its immediate vicinity and feel that they belong there. It includes people with personal, social, cultural or other relationships to Berlin such as related organisations with cultural, economic or other connections to Berlin, as well as inhabitants, companies and organisations from other places called Berlin. We will apply for the approval of .berlin at ICANN in the name of this entire community.
The Berlin community application
ICANN expects that applications for a regional top-level domain like .berlin be made as an initiative by the entire Internet community of Berliners. This means we need the widest possible support from all Berliners. Many have already joined up, for example by becoming limited partners and actively helping to give shape to the initiative or as sponsors who, amongst other things, profit from our media presence. However, we do also need as many Berliners as possible to support .berlin. Here, we are relying on your support – give us your vote!
